How To Pick The Right Car

How to Pick The Right Car

Buying a car is one of the biggest purchases you will make in life, so you want to make sure you get it right.

Consider Your Needs

What will you be using the car for? What do you expect from the car? If you have a big family, you will need a spacious car. We have a helpful guide on the best cars for families. If you are working in the city, you will need a smaller car that can fit into tight parking spaces.

Body Type

The type of body that you want in your car will depend on your needs. 4x4s, or four-wheel-drives, are perfect for people who want to get off the beaten track, as the power is sent to all four wheels simultaneously.

An SUV (sports utility vehicle) combines the capabilities of an off-road vehicle with road-going passenger vehicles. The definition of SUV varies from country to country, but these make great cars for families.

Saloon cars are mostly designed as a road-going passenger vehicle, with separate compartments for engine, passenger, and cargo.

New Vs Used

New cars will typically be more reliable, and come with up-to-date safety and technological features. They will also be more expensive. The cheaper option, a used car, may be less reliable. You can view our new and used deals here.

Performance

Do you want a fast car? Do you want a long-lasting, solid car? Do you want an economical car with good gas mileage? These are all things you should consider.

Eco-friendly

If the environment is on your mind, you may want to think about an electric car, or a hybrid. These can have expensive up-front costs, but they tend to even out in the long run. Check out our range of electric and hybrid cars.

Your Budget

Before buying a car, you should have an idea of how much you would like to spend. Remember to factor in the fuel costs, the insurance costs, and how you are going to purchase the car.

Different payment methods may mean you are buying the car outright with cash, or purchasing it on finance. If you are thinking of financing a car- would it be the hire purchase option, or personal contract purchase?

Added Extras

Once you have decided on the car and the payment method, there are some optional extras you should think about. These include winter packs and different trim levels.

We offer service plans, GAP insurance, and alloy cover. Services can be costly if not done through a plan like this. Alloys can also be expensive to replace if curbed or oxidised. Choose these at your discretion.

Part-Exchange

Buying a car can have a big financial effect. This can be made more manageable by trading in the car you are currently driving, in order to get either lower monthly payments, or a smaller deposit. If you are purchasing the car outright, you can deduct the value of the car you are trading in straight off the price of the car you are buying.

The Legal Bit

During the purchase of a car, you need to go through all the legal documents to make sure you fully understand the terms of the agreement you are signing up to. We want to make sure you are not signing up to something you do not understand, and our team will be there to guide you every step of the way.

Reserving A Vehicle

When ordering a brand-new vehicle, there is always a reservation period and lead times that need to be considered. With COVID-19, these procedures can take a little longer than usual. Not to worry though, as we still are doing our best to keep everyone as safe as possible whilst providing this service.

Collection or Delivery?

After your car has been ordered, you then need to organise whether it will be collection or delivery. Both these options follow COVID-19 guidelines. If collecting, the car will be deep cleaned and sanitised, and can be collected from the carpark of the dealership. Delivery is available up to 30 miles for free, with £1 a mile afterwards.  It will also be deep cleaned and sanitised to ensure the safety of the customer and the staff.

Driving Off Into The Sunset

The journey does not end with the purchase as Peter Vardy staff will always be on hand and willing to help with repairs and servicing. We are committed to making sure that even after the purchase, you have no worries about anything and you can simply enjoy your car.
