Let's Talk About Cost
Lets Talk
Cost
A lot of people are choosing to lease as it means you are not tied into owning the car. Technology is continuously advancing so you may want to get something with a higher range in a few year's time, so it gives you flexibility to make the cost affordable and also have the option to upgrade at the end of your contract and keep moving as the market moves forward.

GOVERNMENT GRANT
You can get a discount on the price of brand new low-emission vehicles through a grant the government gives to vehicle dealerships and manufacturers.
The maximum grant available for cars is £3,000.
The Plug In Vehicle Grant* is a grant currently offered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) to eligible manufacturers to promote the purchase of ultra low emission vehicles.
x currently qualifies for this scheme. The £3,000 grant has already been deducted from the recommended 'on the road' price shown (and therefore the recommended 'on the road' price will increase in the event that grant funding is withdrawn, or eligibility for the grant or the grant amount changes, for any reason).
Customers purchasing an X ! will receive a maximum of £3,000 off the purchase price. Your Volkswagen Retailer will submit the details of your order online in order to claim the grant funding. The grant is subject to full T&Cs and eligibility requirements.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE HOMECHARGE SCHEME
Save £350 on purchase and installation of an electric vehicle charge point for your home
The UK government set up a scheme to support the wider use of electric and hybrid cars through the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). The grant for home charge points, also known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), provides 75% off the cost of purchasing and installing a home charge point up to a maximum of £350.
The OLEV Grant (also known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) offers a £350 discount off the purchase & installation costs of a home charging point. The grant is available for most EVs and plug-in hybrids. You can claim one charge point per qualifying vehicle. A household can claim up to two charge point grants.
Once you’ve made the switch to electric, you’re going to want to install an at-home charging station so you’re never far from a power boost for your new car. And now the government has introduced a grant that can offset the cost of installation. The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme gives the registered keeper of the car, the lessee or the primary user up to 75% off (capped at £500, inc. VAT) the total costs of installing the charge point, along with any other associated installation costs.
NO MORE CONGESTION CHARGE
This is an exciting benefit for all London drivers as the costly congestion charge that applies to the centre of the city will no longer apply to anyone who drives a vehicle that emits 75g/km or less of C0₂. Vehciles that meet this requirement:
Some London boroughs even offer reduced parking fees for electric vehicles, making it a win-win for Londoners who decide to drive electric – not only are these vehicles made for the city, but they’ll also save you money that can be spent elsewhere.
SAVINGS ON CAR TAX
If your car is a zero-emission vehicle or was registered before 1 April 2017 and emits less than 100g CO₂/km, then you’re exempt from paying vehicle excise duty (VED). Often known as car tax, it’s a fee that all other car drivers have to pay to drive and park on UK roads. Just another benefit of being a zero-emissions driver.
Note that cars valued at or exceeding £40,000 were previously subject to the 'Luxury Car Tax', but this has been scrapped for zero-emission vehicles in the governments 2020 budget.
