At the ‘Concours d’Elegance’ at Pebble Beach BMW announced the hotly anticipated M4 Coupé concept which is perhaps the first look into what BMW’s high-performance cars of tomorrow will be.
Friedrich Nitschke, Chairman of the managing board of BMW M spoke where the M4 concept was born. “The BMW Concept M4 Coupé reflects the BMW M Philosophy in ideal form it combines motor racing genes and unrestricted everyday suitability in a highly emotional overall concept”. He reiterated how the M3 has taken motor racing and put it on the road and the M4 has been designed to not replace but further this impeccable bloodline of cars.
The concept model has been designed with absolutely no compromise and embodies all of BMW’s M cars design characteristics; strong, emotional and sublimely dynamic. From each angle the M4 shouts about its superior performance and the typically enhanced features hide the beefed up interior of the M4. Large air intakes, flared wheel arches and a sculpted rear diffuser are just some of the features necessary to keep this car running at such an optimised pace. Adrian Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design explains that the exaggerated body is completely necessary, “At BMW M Group, design is above all an expression of function.”
Nothing is done without a reason and all changes are justified by the high performance nature of the M Cars. The M4 although still at the concept stage has been extremely well received in the motoring press and we expect BMW to announce production of the vehicle for sale in summer 2014.
